Preventing Problems Before They Start
The health of your child’s teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of the entire body. Although routine brushing and flossing at home are necessary to keep your child’s smile looking its best, visiting our office for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
The American Dental Association recommends your little one visit us every six months. By routinely seeing us for exams and cleanings, your son or daughter can:
- Develop a relationship of trust with us
- Gain confidence and feel comfortable about regular dental visits
- Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath
- Avert major dental problems before they begin
- Avoid costly and extensive dental procedures
- Have a smile that will last a lifetime
The Exam
During your child’s exam, Dr. Ferguson will thoroughly examine the teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems. She may also want to take X-rays to see what is happening between the teeth and beneath the surface of the teeth and gums. The images will help us discover dental issues not visible in the mouth.
Professional Cleanings
The surfaces of the teeth will be examined to determine whether there are any cavities and to examine the quality of existing fillings. We will then perform an exam to make sure your child’s gums and other oral tissues are healthy.
Next, the dentist or hygienist will provide a thorough teeth cleaning, floss between the teeth, and apply a fluoride varnish.
